Bio:

Born in Singapore and bred in the beautiful sea side town of Pondicherry, a former French colony in India, Samir Sarkar was educated right from kindergarten to college at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education where he developed a keen interest in the art of photography and music. This along his keen managerial skills drove him to believe that filmmaking could encompass all his interests, allowing himself to express in a wholesome manner. He further educated himself in the field of filmmaking at the national film school of France, LA FEMIS, in Paris, where he obtained a degree in film production

After a year of training in the films department at Contract Advertising's (WPP Group) Mumbai office, Samir realised his passion lay in world of cinema. He joined the "Bollywood" industry at the age of 22 and for the next 10 years worked in several capacities on diverse major productions. He has been closely associated with some of the finest names in the Indian film industry including Shekhar Kapur, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Mani Rathnam, Santosh Sivan, M F Hussain, Farah Khan, Ram Gopal Varma, Rajiv Menon, Nagesh Kukunoor, Shahji Karun, Mahesh Mathai and many others. During the same period he also worked on several successful TV commercials, documentaries and music videos.

His flair for languages and his keen interest in travel also got him involved in important roles on several international advertising, documentary, and feature film projects including Gaumont's "Hanuman", Pandora Films' "Samsara" and Ang Lee's Oscar winning film "Life of Pi".

In 2008, after working for more than a decade and a half as a freelancer Samir founded Magic Hour Films / Film in India, an award winning film production company with offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and Singapore. Magic Hour Films has been associated with the most reputed brands and acclaimed directors from all accross the globe.
